Kite-fliers lift photographer into a winning position

AN atmospheric shot of Fraisthorpe beach has won an amateur photography competition for a man from York.

David Hopley’s picture, capturing soaring kites against a background of leaden skies, won first prize in the third Sewerby Hall and Gardens competition and has been professionally framed by Ben Walker of Gallerino Studios.

It is now on show at the hall, alongside other selected entries, until Sunday, September 25, when the pictures will be moved to the Clock Tower tea rooms at the site.

The Coast, Sea and Sky competition invited people to photograph the region with the natural world of East Yorkshire at its heart.

Marie Gascoigne, facility manager at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, said: “The standard of entries was extremely high making picking just one photograph as an overall winner very difficult. We had over 70 entries and from these we picked around a dozen to display alongside the winner.

“I would like to congratulate David Hopley from York on his winning photograph and thank all the entrants for taking the time and effort over their entries. David’s entry won a place on show in the Blue Room at Sewerby Hall and Gardens where it will remain until the end of the season.”
