Knife-wielding thief is jailed for robbing his grandfather’s home

A MAN who brandished a knife during a robbery at his grandfather’s home has been jailed for eight years.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that Nathan
Robinson, 22, of The Scar, Lower Skircoat, Halifax, had been committing offences since the age of 11 and had previous convictions for crimes against his elderly relative.

Robinson, who suffers from a personality disorder, was with an accomplice when he went to the Hebden Bridge home of his 72-year-old grandfather in February. During the night-time incident Robinson picked up a knife from a kitchen drawer and, after obtaining his grandfather’s personal identification number, his accomplice took his bank card to an ATM to withdraw £120.

Robinson had denied charges of robbery and fraud, but a jury found him guilty of both following a trial.

The offences were within months of Robinson being given a suspended sentence order, but his barrister Charlotte Eastwood said he had been making some progress. Miss Eastwood said her client had not armed himself with the knife before going to the property and there had been no physical contact with the complainant.

She said Robinson suffered from a treatable condition and it was anticipated that while in custody he could receive the treatment he needed.

Judge Spencer said the previous incidents against the same complainant amounted to Robinson using his relative as a source of funds when he wanted them.
