She completed her Olympic look with a blue crepe dress by Stella McCartney, who has designed a range of clothing the athletes will wear when competing, training and relaxing.

London’s National Portrait Gallery was the venue for the exhibition, Road To 2012: Aiming High, the third and final instalment of a three-year project showcasing world-class athletes and those working behind the scenes.

Among those photographed by Jonathan Anderson & Edwin Low, Nadav Kander and Jillian Edelstein are the men’s rowing eight, taekwondo fighter Jade Jones, London Mayor Boris Johnson and Turner Prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor, who co-created the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture at the Olympic Park.

The Duchess has a close connection with the National Portrait Gallery as she is its patron and has a formal role with the Olympics as an Ambassador for Team GB and ParalympicsGB.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were treated to a display of activities and games by hundreds of schoolchildren as they continued their Diamond Jubilee visit of the Channel Islands.

Some of the 400 11-year-olds at the youth showcase in Guernsey highlighted their circus skills, cupcake-making abilities and somersault routines.

The royal couple lapped up the displays and a beaming Charles and Camilla drew applause when they took part in a game with the children.
