Land and sea journey for Eurovision star

Eurovision Song Contest hopeful Josh Dubovie was taking no chances with ash disruption yesterday as he headed off on a land and sea odyssey to reach the contest.

BBC bosses did not want to leave travel plans at the mercy of the elements, so they planned a series of ferry and coach rides.

Instead of a two-hour flight, Dubovie and his team will take up to 36 hours to travel 1,000 miles to the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

Dubovie – who will perform That Sounds Good To Me in the contest a week today – said yesterday: "It's all part of the experience. It's a bit like going on a big family holiday."

There had been fears he may not make crucial technical rehearsals this weekend owing to recent travel uncertainty.

So his itinerary sees him sail from Harwich to Esbjerg, Denmark, on the cruise ferry Dana Sirena, then by road to another ferry port, Hirtshals, in the north of the country. From there he heads to Larvik in Norway, then takes a coach journey to Oslo. The contest is on BBC1 at 8pm.
