Land to be restored for community

A SCHEME worth almost £100,000 has been drawn up to restore a Bradford playing field to its former glory - benefiting hundreds of families.

Spencer Road Playing Field, which is near two primary schools, the Khidmat Community Centre and Farnham Road Children’s Centre, is to be transformed into sports pitches and an outdoor community area.

The Bradford West Area Committee’s chairman, Coun Arshad Hussain, said: “The Spencer Road Open Space Development is great news for the community. It will encourage sport and recreation in the area by developing soccer and cricket pitches, fencing and gates, seating, trees and a new footpath.”

It is hoped work will start on site in the spring and most of the £95,000 scheme will be finished by the summer. The plans have been drawn up by a partnership led by Bradford Council, including schools, councillors and police.

The executive member for children’s services, Coun Ralph Berry, said: “Hundreds of families and pupils will benefit from the new open space and I am looking forward to seeing it completed.”
