Land owners asked to nominate housing sites

LAND owners and developers in the Hull area are being asked to suggest locations for future housing developments.

The city council and its partners want to identify possible sites as it prepares its new Local Plan, which will guide developments in the city up to 2030.

The authority said it would not know how many new homes might be needed until it begins further consultations in December.

Coun Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for “energy city”, said: “The new Local Plan is vital in determining the future direction and investment in the city.

“Despite the economic downturn, changes in the make-up of households are expected to require many new homes in Hull by 2030. Our plans need to consider where these houses could be built and which areas of the city should be given priority.”

The council would like to her about sites that could be considered for housing development, whether in the short-term or over the length of the plan.

A spokeswoman said: “To create the new Local Plan, planning officers will need to update the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment as part of the process. To help to compile the schedule, people are being given the opportunity to put forward land they think would be suitable for housing development, either in the short term or looking to the next 15 years.

“Using the suggestions from land owners and developers, along with the council’s own knowledge, will help the authority decide what options may exist to meet the needs of the future.

“Submitting details of potential land doesn’t guarantee that it will be included in the final plans, as there are many things to consider before the final decision about the use for these areas of land are made. However, full consideration will be given to every site put forward.”

Anyone wanting to submit proposals should complete a form on the council’s website by Friday, June 28.
