Landmark building to host events

A RESTORED 18th century former hunting lodge in Rotherham is now available to hire for events.

Boston Castle has a “fully accessible meeting room with a small kitchen, two small rooms on the ground floor and access to the castle roof with outstanding views of Rotherham”, a spokesman for Rotherham Council said.

The site reopened last summer after a £1.2m restoration scheme, which involved new stairs and a lift being installed and new toilets being constructed.

A new car park was formed, access roads were installed and security measures were improved.

Battlements on the roof were also reinstated using ‘Rotherham Red’ sandstone.

Coun Amy Rushforth, member for culture and tourism, said: “Boston Castle is the perfect place to hold a celebration event or business meeting.

“It really does showcase the best of Rotherham and its fantastic and varied history.

“The rooms are spacious and relaxing, with plenty of first-class facilities to make your short stay a welcome, and memorable one.”

Boston Castle was built in 1775 by the Earl of Effingham, to mark his opposition to British attempts to crush the American Revolution.
