SOME OF London’s best-known landmarks have been given a colourful look on the £5 coin.
Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and Elizabeth Tower which houses Big Ben all appear as colour printed engravings on the silver coin as part of the Royal Mints Portrait of Britain coin collection.
The four-coin pack has been created so that each landmark looks as though it is being seen by a visitor, through passing crowds or rain showers.
Engraver Glyn Davies, who created the designs with Laura Clancy, said: “It struck us that it’s never possible to get an uninterrupted view of them without being obscured in some way by the weather, other tourists or their location. On returning, we drew up compositions.”
