Last chance to give views on proposed city housing sites

Among the 21 sites that have been earmarked as being potentially suitable for development between now and 2027 are reservoirs, disused playing fields and a working farm.

This comes as the Government is calling upon councils across the country to identify enough land for new homes, due to a national housing shortage.

Coun Helen Mirfin–Boukouris, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for jobs and growth, said: “This land is not going to be built on overnight - it’s about having a plan of land supply for the future.

“If we do not identify enough land then developers could ask to build in places where we do not want them to, like in the green belt.

“We don’t want this to happen. We want to try and protect as much of Sheffield’s green space as we can.”

One of the sites that has been identified is the Gilders car showroom in Middlewood Road, which could potentially accommodate up to 80 homes.

Meanwhile, Dyson’s Field on Greaves Lane in Stannington has also been allocated by Sheffield Council as a potential site for up to 20 new houses.

The consultation period ends on Monday, February 27.
