Latest boy band sensation to star at Radio 1 awards

One Direction and Cher Lloyd are among the acts who will feature at Radio 1’s Teen Awards next month.

The line-up will also see Pixie Lott headlining at London’s Wembley Arena for 8,000 fans.

Singer Mollie King from The Saturdays will co-host the show with Radio 1 presenter Nick Grimshaw.

One Direction, the British-Irish boyband finished only third on the The X Factor but are heading for this week’s number one slot in the singles chart, with debut What Makes You Beautiful expected to be the fastest-selling track of the year.

The Teen Awards are staged to celebrate the achievements of inspirational young people, as well as honouring music, sport and entertainment stars.

Also on the bill are Ed Sheeran and Rizzle Kicks.

Liam Payne, from One Direction, said: “I’ve always wanted to go to the Teen Awards and now we’re playing at them. The line-up is incredible.”

The awards bash will be broadcast live on Radio 1 and streamed on the station’s website.
