Police have warned rail passengers NOT to call them if they can't get home because of lightning strikes.

A spokesman for the force said: "We are aware that the Leeds signal box has been struck by lightening.

"This is causing delays and services to be cancelled. Please do not contact 101 or 999 to ask how to get home. Contact the information desks in stations for updates. #staysafe"

Disruption is expected all day with rail services across Yorkshire being delayed in Leeds, York, Doncaster and other major stations.
