Teenage BMX cyclist critical after crash involving car on A19 near Eggborough Power Station

A 15-YEAR-OLD boy is in a critical condition after a crash involving his BMX-style bicycle and a car at Eggborough, near Selby.

The accident happened on the A19 outside the Eggborough Power Station at about 9.15pm on Monday, when the boy's white bicycle was involved in a collision with a black Volkswagen Passat.

The teenager was taken to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and his condition is described as critical.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was uninjured.

Police have said the boy had been with another cyclist at the time of the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The road was closed for around six hours while officers from North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group and Forensic Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene.
