Launch of new square given diamond touch

ACTS including a jazz band, a contemporary dance troupe and even a busking dog will take to the stage in Doncaster as the town marks the Diamond Jubilee with the opening of a new square.

The Big Launch event from 12.45pm on Sunday, June 3 has been organised to coincide with the national “Big Jubilee Lunch” and will see entertainment and refreshments laid on in the new Sir Nigel Gresley Square.

Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: “With bags of entertainment, loads of attractions and many interesting activities to try, the Big Launch will offer something for the whole family to enjoy.

“It’s going to be a great afternoon and I look forward to welcoming everyone to the event.”

Entertainment will begin at 1pm, after the official opening of the square, with a performance from Doncaster-based Rock Choir.

Other performances are planned from the Talegate Theatre, Paradox Dance, Vintage Band, Active Revolution Dance Group and the Doncaster Youth Jazz Association.

In addition, there will be roving entertainment, a market, a craft fair, children’s rides and refreshments.
