A spokesperson for Leeds City College told the Yorkshire Post: “In the early hours of this morning a fire started at our Printworks campus, on Hunslet Road. Thanks to the response of the local fire and rescue service and the college’s internal fire prevention measures, the incident has now been controlled. The damage was contained and isolated to one part of the building.

“That means we are able to carry on teaching as normal although we have, just for today, asked some students - from the schools of Hair, Beauty & Media Makeup and Travel, Food & Drink - to study from home.

“The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.”
