Sunday night’s closing set from Metallica brought a fitting finale to this year’s festival.

The band had promised the most expensive show in the history of the festival, and one could tell from the second they hit the stage this would be the case.

With gigantic LED screens ensuring the band could be seen from all over the site, every inch of the stage was used with the band even bringing up selected audience members to rock out behind drummer Lars Ulrich.

Festival Republic’s Melvin Benn has revealed the team have already secured one headliner for next year’s festival.

He said: “This year has been an incredible highlight for Reading and Leeds.

“Metallica brought us the largest production in the history of the festivals, whilst Mumford & Sons and The Libertines proved themselves worthy of their headline name.

“I would like to thank our sponsors and media partners for their ongoing support.

“I know it will be difficult to beat, but I can already promise 2016 is going to be worth the wait.”

Meanwhile police are advising motorists that traffic remains heavily congested on the A1 following Leeds Festival.

Cars are moving slowly along the road between junctions 44 and 46 around Bramham Park as revellers exit the site.

The dual site event will take place on 26th, 27th, 28th August 2016.

Tickets are available from www.seetickets.com and www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
