Police investigating the murder of a young father in Leeds have discovered a shotgun in woodland close to where he died.
Jordan Stapleton, 21, was shot dead at his home on Beckhill Chase, Meanwood, on the night of April 16 as his four-year-old son slept upstairs.
West Yorkshire Police said specialist teams had been carrying out searches of the area of woodland off Beckhill Avenue after receiving information on Monday.
They discovered the shotgun on Wednesday night.
Det Supt Scott Wood, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a significant find as part of our ongoing investigation into Jordan’s murder.
“We will be consulting forensic and ballistics experts to establish whether the gun is connected to the shooting.”
Three men appeared in court this week charged with Mr Stapleton’s murder.
Jake Looby, 19, of Beckhill Chase, Meanwood, Luke Toner, 20, of Scott Hall Place, Scott Hall, and Colin Webster, 19, of Bayswater Row, Harehills, were remanded in custody until July 26.
Cyrus Hanley, 19, of Miles Hill View, Potternewton, had already been charged with the murder. He is due to appear in court with his co-accused on the same date.
