The latest incident occurred in the early hours of last Saturday morning. A 28-year-old woman was approached from behind in Dock Street by a man who indecently assaulted her.

The man made off onto Waterloo Street and then into Meadow Lane away from the city centre.

Police believe the attacker may have been in the Boar Lane area of the city centre before pouncing.

He is described as white, with a shaved head. He wore a black jacket which had white marking on the front of the left shoulder and on the rear right shoulder area, and jeans which had faded patches.

One of the earlier victims, a 30-year-old woman who had been grabbed in the early hours of New Year's Day by a man who tried to drag her into an alleyway, said: "I am absolutely petrified. I have to go out on the road for my work and now have to have somebody with me.

"I cannot go out after dark on my own, I cannot walk my dog and it is like being housebound."

One of the four other alleged indecent assaults was in Eastgate at 4.20pm on December 29, and the three subsequent attacks occurred within 80 minutes on the night of Wednesday January 6, at 8.15pm and 8.25pm in Chadwick Street, near Crown Point, and at 9.25pm on Canal Wharfe,Water Lane, Holbeck.
