Leeds raiders threaten pensioner with hammer in her home

A PENSIONER has been left shaken after two men threatened her with a hammer during an attempted burglary in Rothwell near Leeds.

The woman, who is in her sixties, was confronted by the men in her home on Thorn Grove at 9.20am on Thursday morning, West Yorkshire Police said.

The offenders entered the woman’s detached bungalow through a side door and found the woman, who lives alone.

They then pushed her onto her bed and threatened her with the hammer while demanding money and jewellery.

However the men did not take anything and left the property along Thorn Grove in the direction of Styebank Lane.

Following the incident City and Holbeck CID are appealing for information, including anyone who saw the two men in the local area.

The man who threatened the woman is described as possibly of mixed race, around 6ft tall, of slim build with a round face, short slightly spiky hair, of smart appearance, with dark eyes, and wore a white buttoned shirt.

The second man is described as well over 6ft tall, of broad build, and is believed to have been wearing a dark suit or matching trousers and shirt, and possibly a cap or a balaclava.

One of the men is believed to have been carrying a satchel-style bag over their shoulder, and officers are keen to hear from anyone who was visited by people possibly canvassing for business in the local area on Thursday morning or during the last week.
