The striker was recalled by head coach Steve Evans having moved to Gigg Lane little over a week before the sacking of Uwe Rosler last month.

Rosler’s decision to send Erwin out on loan was one of his final acts as Leeds boss and Evans intended to bring him back to Elland Road as soon as his 28-day spell with Bury ended.

Erwin - signed from Motherwell in the summer - is yet to make a single first-team appearance for United.

He played three times for Bury, twice as a substitute, but failed to score.

Evans said: "He's trained this morning and he's trained particularly well. I've given a message to Lee which is that this is a big opportunity for him.

"He's like a new boy walking in the door and he must be excited about being back. I'm not one to give criticism but if you buy someone out of Motherwell who's built a nice little reputation for himself, the minimum the kid deserves is an opportunity, not being shipped out."
