Leeds Utd stars join mourners at farewell to last Doncaster crash victim

LEEDS UNITED footballers were among hundreds of mourners who attended the last of five funerals following a horrific car crash that left five teenagers dead.

Blake Cairns, 16, was remembered today at the Salvation Army’s Lakeside Community Church in Doncaster, where his coffin arrived by horse-drawn hearse.

Blake’s elder brother Alex is one of Leeds United’s goalkeepers.

The teenager died earlier this month along with Jordanna Goodwin, 16, Megan Storey, 16, Arpad Kore, 18, and Bartosz Bortniczak, 18, after the Toyota Corolla they were in was in a crash with a Seat Leon car just outside Conisbrough, near Doncaster.

Blake, Jordanna, Arpad and Megan were sixth-formers at Danum Academy in the town and warehouse worker Bartosz was a former pupil.

Blake’s funeral today was last of the five to take place this week.The two girls’ funerals took place together.

Students have laid scores of tributes to their friends outside the school’s sixth-form common room and at the spot where the crash happened, on the A630 Doncaster to Rotherham road, about five miles (8km) from Danum.

The crash happened just over a week ago about 100 yards from the scene of another in January 2011, in which three teenagers, aged 14, 15, and 16, died after the car they were in hit a tree and was torn apart.

South Yorkshire Police believe a third car - a black Vauxhall Corsa - may also have been involved in the latest incident.

A 21-year-old Doncaster man, who was driving the Corsa, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released on bail while police continue their investigation.
