Leeds vet nurse and her dog take top honours at Crufts

Three-year-old Vinnie walked away with the presitigious award alongside owner Sarah Amos-Jones, a member of Selby Ringcraft.

The Kennel Club's 126th annual dog show at Birmingham NEC saw several other Yorkshire winners.

“It’s amazing. I never ever thought we would get best of breed at Crufts so it’s just a dream come true,” said 44-year-old veterinary nurse Sarah.

“At home Vinnie is the most laid-back dog you could imagine.

“He loves playing with the puppies, he’s got the most wonderful temperament and when you get him into the show ring he absolutely adores it. His tail never stops wagging.

“We’ve really enjoyed today. We’ve been coming to Crufts for a long time so it’s always a big highlight in the show diary.”

Miniature pinscher Wilson won his Best of Breed category on retiring owner Julie Harrison's final year at the show.

“It’s fantastic, I’m over the moon, I had no expectation that this could happen to me,” said Julie, of Catterick in North Yorkshire.

“Wilson won today because he’s stunning, he’s lovely to with and the judges saw that.

“I bred Wilson and he is the last dog after 40 years of breeding to become a champion. All those years were worthwhile for this moment because this was my last year at Crufts.

“I had to put a lot of work into him but it was all worth it, it was our time to shine.”
