Left in the dark by road repairs

From: Martin Wilcock, Barlow, Derbyshire.

MY wife and I popped up to Leeds from Derbyshire recently to take my daughter and her boyfriend for a meal at Raymond Blanc’s restaurant (very good by the way, if you haven’t been there).

It’s been a long time since I’ve done this journey in the dark, and quite frankly, to quote my wife: “It was bloody scary – I didn’t like it at all.”

This was on a dry, clear night.

Basically, since presumably they have carried out resurfacing works, the cat’s eyes appear to be missing. Consequently, you can’t see any further than your headlights and it gets harder to keep in your lane when the road curves, rather like driving in fog.

I am emailing the Highways Agency about this as, quite frankly, I would not be at all surprised if some time in the future there is an accident in bad weather caused by this situation.

Star rating for hotel

I LIVE in Lincolnshire – I visited relatives in South Yorkshire the other day and we had lunch at a place called Sandygate Hotel, Wath-upon-Dearne.

It was really really good and I couldn’t believe the value for money – £15.95 for three courses. I had fresh tuna steak with clams, it was brilliant. There were so many items on the menu it was difficult to make a decision.

I was told afterwards that this place had featured on the TV programme Hotel Inspector.

Flag daze

WHILE greatly admiring the spirit of adventure running through the veins of Mr and Mrs Robert Douglas regarding their proposed trip to New Zealand (Yorkshire Post, May 30), I would like to offer a little advice on the correct way to fly the Union Jack – the right way up.
