Legal eagles await verdict

LAW students from across the region are to take part in the regional heat of a negotiating competition in York this weekend.

There will be 20 teams from law schools, including Leeds University, Leeds Met, Hull University and Bradford College competing for a place in a national final in March.

The regional heat, which takes place at the College of Law, in York, on Saturday, will challenge students to negotiate transactions or resolve disputes on behalf of fictional clients.

The College of Law, in Bishopthorpe, is entering three teams. Centre director Paul Aber said: "Getting the best deal for the client often involves skilful negotiation on the part of lawyers. It is therefore vital that law students develop their negotiation skills early on."
