Legion band seeks new members

THE Yorkshire Band of the Royal British Legion is appealing for new members.

The military-style concert band, which was formed in September, offers brass, woodwind and percussion players at Grade Five or above and over the age of 16 the chance to belong to a uniformed band which performs locally, nationally and internationally.

They are also dedicated to raising money for the Royal British Legion in their 90th anniversary year and beyond.

Bandmaster Louise Lingard-Snape said: “We live in brass band country and we like to take music into the community.

“We aim to offer something new in terms of our music and will welcome anyone. We also support the Royal British Legion, raising lots of money for good causes.”

Musicians are welcome to sit in on a rehearsal before making a commitment to join the band.

It is the first British Legion band to be formed in Yorkshire and engagements are already booked well into next year.

The band rehearses at Fontenay Barracks on Wakefield Road in Barnsley every Monday evening between 7.30 and 9.30.
