Lib Dem to take over housing role

LIBERAL Democrat councillor Patrick Wilson will take responsibility for housing at under-pressure Doncaster Council after accepting an offer from elected Mayor Peter Davies.

Coun Wilson, who served briefly as Cabinet member for children's services under previous mayor Martin Winter, is expected to take up his new post with immediate effect.

Doncaster Council has been widely criticised for multiple failings, including in children's services, and was described by the Audit Commission as one of the worst councils it had ever seen.

Last week Communities Secretary Eric Pickles announced a Government-appointed hit squad would take over the authority and a new chief executive, Rob Vincent, was appointed.

Mayor Davies said: "I am delighted to welcome Patrick Wilson to my Cabinet."
