Lib Dems: 'You don't own the North' Labour told

NICK Clegg has warned Labour not to think it owns the North as he hailed the "most exciting and unpredictable" election for a generation.

After another impressive performance in the second leaders' debate the Liberal Democrat leader was back on the campaign trail awaiting

this weekend's opinion polls to see if his support was holding up.

In Newcastle Mr Clegg said the debate had left the campaign "wide open" and added: "The North does not belong to Labour. It belongs to you – the people who live and work in the North."

Meanwhile he accused his rivals of scaremongering. Gordon Brown was "spreading fear" and trying to frighten people back into the "old politics" while David Cameron's supporters were making "ludicrous claims of Armageddon" if there was a hung Parliament.
