Libary to celebrate 100th birthday

Rastrick’s fascinating history will be brought to life over the next year as a way of celebrating the town’s library’s 100th birthday.

Rastrick Local History Group is putting on monthly displays at the library over the next year.

It begins with a display concerning Rastrick’s war memorial and highlights Ernest and James Clay, formerly of Rastrick Common.

Chairman Alan Flux says that the work on show will be part of a longer aim of the publication of a book highlighting the History of Rastrick with chapters being prepared by various members.

He said: “We are keenly seeking local people who may well have information, photographs or other forms of memorabilia and are willing to share it.

“We are looking for anyone who has a particular interest and would like to write a chapter themselves.” A series of celebratory events will take place during the week of November 22 next year.

Anyone who is interested in getting involved with the project can contact Alan Flux at [email protected]

He is also keen to hear from anyone who has a relative named on the war memorial outside the library.
