Library just the ticket for Brontë role

in preparation for her role as eldest sister Charlotte in the play Brontë at West Yorkshire Playhouse, actor Kirstin Atherton visited Leeds Library’s collection of Brontë books, including a first edition of The Professor.

Following a successful staging at the Playhouse in 2005, Brontë is back in Leeds in a new touring production which opened yesterday and runs until Saturday, May 28.

Set in 1845 at the family’s isolated parsonage home, Brontë begins as Branwell returns home in disgrace, dismissed from domestic service following an affair with the mistress of the house.

As he descends further into alcoholism, addiction and insanity, his three sisters escape into their writing.
