Life for man who shot cousin dead

A BABY-faced killer who blasted his cousin to death as he was being ejected from a birthday party was yesterday jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years.

Gatecrasher Abdi Omar, 25, pulled a single-barrel sawn-off shotgun out of his trousers and fired a shot over his shoulder hitting 18-year-old Deeq Ali in the head from as little as two inches away.

Omar, a Somalian, had earlier been refused entry to the 24th birthday celebrations of Rosalin Roberts at the Plaza community centre in Burngreave, Sheffield.

But he and a group of other Somalians later got in and after several fights broke out about 2am they were being ejected when the gun went off.

Judge Roger Keen, sitting at Sheffield Crown Court, said: “You felt humiliated and decided that someone in that club was going to suffer. In firing the weapon you intended people in the club to be seriously injured. You demonstrated that night you are a very dangerous man.”

Omar ran off but was arrested nearby and told police the .410 gun went off accidentally as he pulled it out of his trousers.

The court was told that after firing it he reloaded the gun, cocked it and stuffed it in his trousers ready and available to use.

Omar had denied murdering Mr Ali on October 30 last year but was found guilty. He was also given six years concurrently for possessing the firearm.
