Life-saving rescue for blaze victim

A MAN from Doncaster had to be rescued from his home by firefighters after a chip pan fire on Sunday.

Firefighters found the man, in his 20s, slumped in his bathroom – unconscious and without a pulse – when they arrived just before 7pm that evening.

Crews from Edlington and Doncaster carried him from the house, on Victoria Road in Balby, and administered emergency first aid, recovering the man's breathing and pulse, before paramedics arrived to continue medical treatment and take him to hospital.

He is now receiving treatment for burns at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "Fire investigators believe the fire was caused by a chip pan in the kitchen, which was extensively fire damaged.

"A dog who was also rescued from the property was cared for by neighbours."
