Mrs Hickson-Marsay was put forward for the award by husband Martin Marsay and Hornsea Inshore Rescue member Polly Worsdale.

Ms Worsdale said: “I’m really thrilled that Sue’s got to the finals of this national competition, because if anyone deserves to be honoured for the work they’ve done for Hornsea Rescue, all voluntary and from 1994, then it’s Sue. Everyone at Hornsea Rescue appreciates how much she is the figurehead and how we much we owe to her determination, vitality, dedication and sheer hard work.”

Mayor of Hornsea, Councillor John Whittle, said: “I admire her and Hornsea Rescue for all they do for our residents and visitors alike.

“She is a true ambassador and deserves recognition as such.”
