Light shed on historic prison

YORK’S historic prison, famous for holding criminals such as Dick Turpin, portrayed above, will be opened for evening visits as part of the Illuminating York Festival this year.

The event runs for four days from October 26 and will see many of the city’s landmark buildings lit up throughout the evenings.

To support that, a range of supporting events have been arranged including torch-lit tours, ghost walks and late night openings at venues including the prison, where pre-booking is essential.
