The sculpture and sundial were taken from the garden of the house in Derry Hill, Menston, while Les and Vera Goldman were on holiday last week.

Mr Goldman, 65, said: “The sculpture is called Leaf Form and is by the Bristol-based sculptor Margaret Lovell. It is one of an edition of nine made around in 1968 and would be almost impossible to replace.

“It has great sentimental value as it was bought as a special birthday present for my wife.

“The sundial also has sentimental value as it was bought in memory of our late next door neighbour, who was always very kind to us.”

The sculpture is about 18in in height, made of bronze and set on a wooden plinth.

It was taken along with the sundial and a “small, grubby but cute” ceramic frog.
