Literary celebration at Readers' Day

LITERATURE lovers are being promised a feast at this year's East Riding Readers' Day.

Up and coming novelists will be joined by Man Booker Prize shortlisted writer Sarah Hall at one of the most popular events in the Yorkshire literary calendar.

The event at Longcroft School, Beverley, now in its 10th year, features a mix of readers’ group sessions with authors, panel discussions and conversation.

Ms Hall will be joined by debut novelist Sarah Rayner, and by crime writer Jim Creed and the acclaimed Joe Treasure from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 22.

John W. Clarke, literature officer for East Riding Libraries and organiser of the day, said: “Given the diminishing general availability of books by good authors without a track-record or media profile, we believe that it’s our duty to celebrate the diversity of writing that goes on off the radar of all but the biggest book stores.

“This year we’re delighted that Sarah Hall will be joined by three substantial writers relatively early on in their journey as novelists.”

Those who get tickets will also receive a book by their chosen author to read and digest in advance of the event.
