Littering offence leads to £265 bill

THROWING away a plastic bottle in a Hull street has cost a city resident £265.

Sean Elrick, of Hayton Grove, Gipsyville, Hull, was taken to court for littering on Alfred Gelder Street in Hull on March 27.

Hull Magistrates' Court found Elrick guilty in his absence and fined him 190, including a victim surcharge of 15.

Mr Elrick was also ordered to pay costs of 75 to Hull Council, bringing the total bill to 265.

Caroline Benson, Environmental Enforcement Officer, said: "You should always think before disposing of your litter and

look for the nearest bin or to put it in your pocket until you find one.

"If you do not do this, then it maybe of no surprise to you to receive either a fixed penalty notice or be liable to legal action.
