Little Jack adds string to his bow as Robin Hood

JACK Downham will soon be seen in cinemas playing a young Robin Hood.

The seven-year-old, from Leeds, features in the latest screen adaptation of the legendary outlaw, starring Russell Crowe.

Jack, a pupil at Farfield Primary School, Farsley, said: "I was very happy when my mum told me I had got the role. I like Robin Hood and I know quite a lot about the story.

"I play little Robin Hood as a child and I'm going to be in a flashback where Robin's dad is dying. I've been to the set and I met Russell Crowe and (director] Ridley Scott. They were really nice and made me feel at home."

Jack isn't the only Yorkshire link with the outlaw. Many experts agree that Robin's grave is close to Kirklees Priory, near Brighouse, where he is believed to have died.

Here, it is said, Robin lay dying, betrayed by his cousin, the prioress. Close to death, he shot an arrow in the air, asking to be buried where it fell. A monument, erected in Victorian times, marks the spot where he allegedly breathed his last.

Robin Hood is released in cinemas nationwide on Friday.
