loco in motion: Famous engine makes comeback

The famous locomotive 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley lets off steam as it makes a comeback on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway after undergoing major boiler repairs.

Visitors to the heritage line, which runs across the moors from Pickering to Whitby, are being given the chance to ride on services behind the engine, which holds the post-war record for steam traction at 112mph, until Sunday.

Sir Nigel is a 4-6-2 LNER A4 Pacific class engine and one of only six remaining in the world – four are based in the United Kingdom with the remaining two in North America.

The locomotive will depart for duties on the mainline rail network after Sunday.
