The Countryside Days event began yesterday and continues today and involves 6,000 schoolchildren from more than 100 schools from across Yorkshire. Activities and workshops this year include paper-making and cricket, as well as old favourites such as fly fishing, willow weaving, bread and butter-making, rag-rugging, dry stone walling and even horse-logging. The event is run by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, formed in 1837. The society also organises the annual Great Yorkshire Show at the 250-acre showground early next month.
