London vista greets the Queen

The city skyline and delayed building work of the Crossrail project caught the Queen's eye yesterday when she toured the London headquarters of a leading accountancy firm.

The Queen was in Docklands to open the new 340m headquarters of KPMG – the firm that audits the accounts of the Royal Household.

On the 11th floor a member of staff pointed out to the Queen, who was joined by KPMG's chairman of its UK operations John Griffith-Jones, construction work for the 2012 Olympics on the nearby Stratford site.

The Queen then looked down at some deep excavations for Crossrail next to the building.

The 16bn Crossrail project, which will link Heathrow to Canary Wharf via central London, has had its completion date put back a year to 2018 to save around 1bn on construction costs.
