Lone spectator as persistent as the rain . . .

A solitary spectator huddles under a brolly at Scarborough yesterday as rain stopped play in the Clydesdale Bank 40 match between Yorkshire and Northamptonshire, which the home side eventually won.

Showers and cool temperatures were seen across much of Yorkshire as temperatures struggled to make it into double figures. Downpours were seen in many parts of the region including in Scarborough.

Today's forecast is little better with scattered showers, cold winds and occasional downpours predicted across Yorkshire.

It was not all doom and gloom however with some sunny spells expected, including in the North York Moors where forecasters predict the sun will shine for at least some of the day. Again temperatures are not expected to rise above 10C.

Tom Tobler, forecaster for MeteoGroup, said north-easterly winds would make it feel even colder tomorrow. "It's going to be quite windy as well and noticeably cooler," he said. People will face public transport disruption across the country, with widespread engineering work causing delays and bus replacement services on several major rail routes. Engineering work is affecting most major rail routes, including the East Coast line between London and Leeds, with some services having been cancelled between the capital and Leeds yesterday.
