Long rush-hour delays as crash closes M62 near Leeds

COMMUTERS faced long delays this evening after an accident in which two people were trapped in a car that drove off the M62 in West Yorkshire.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed after the incident this afternoon and an air ambulance was called to the scene.

The motorway was then closed eastbound at its junction with the M621 near Leeds, causing delays of an hour and stationary traffic.

Police set up a diversion via the exit and entry slip roads at junction 27, but congestion is reported as far back as junction 25 at Brighouse.

A man and woman were believed to have been taken to Leeds General Infirmary following the accident.
