Look to workers for savings, urges employment law expert

WITH heavy public sector cuts afoot, an employment law specialist is urging councils and businesses to follow the leed of a West Yorkshire council when seeking savings.

Richard Port, partner in Clarion solicitors in Leeds, says employers should look towards Leeds City Council which has appealed to staff to find cuts of 19m in a bid to avoid job losses.

The council's two biggest unions representing almost 20,000 workers are also urging their members to help the council find ways of saving cash as a way of avoiding redundancies.
