Lorraine and Caroline Wilson-Robinson were devastated when Lorraine discovered her breast cancer had returned after a initial fight with the disease in 2004 when she was 30.

With both women having lost their fathers to cancer, they knew first-hand the destruction the disease can bring and struggled together to fight the resurgence of Lorraine’s cancer.

Lorraine, who met Caroline online while in the middle of her first bout of breast cancer over seven years ago, underwent a mastectomy followed by six months of chemotherapy.

Lorraine, now 42, credits Caroline’s strength and support as one of the reasons she was able to beat cancer for the second time.

She said: “I couldn’t believe that after fighting cancer once I had to go through it all again and relive the whole ordeal.”

Lorraine, who lives in Dinnington, now attends Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield for regular health check-ups but is living the life of a happily married couple with Caroline.

She said: “Caroline has been my rock and I doubt very much I would have pulled through without her support.

“But I also wouldn’t have pulled through without the incredible staff at Weston Park Hospital.

“I spent some time as an in-patient after contracting several infection and the team of staff who looked after me were truly remarkable.”

Lorraine and Caroline are also planning on helping to raise funding for the hospital in the future.

Dr Purohit also spoke of his pleasure at Lorraine’s progress and at Lorraine and Caroline’s happy ending.

He said: “I am so pleased that she has finally tied the knot with her long term partner Caroline who has been absolutely wonderful throughout Lorraine’s cancer journey.”
