Lorry driver charged over motorway death crash

A LORRY driver from Selby has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after two men were killed in a motorway crash.

Philip Cawley, 39, from Ashton-in-Makerfield, and Thomas Southward, 69, from Haydock, were changing a tyre on the hard shoulder of the M6 at Sandbach on September 9 last year when they were hit by an HGV.

Both men received fatal injuries.

Malcolm Simpson, 61, from Selby, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He will appear before South Cheshire Magistrates on February 15.
