A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police said: “During the recovery of the vehicle and it’s load, a damaged box containing live bees was discovered.”

Police contacted the Gloucestershire Bee Keepers Association to help recover the insects.

It was not known how many bees were in the box.”

The spokeswoman added it was too early to speculate on the cause of the crash.

The driver’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed, police said.
