Lottery payout boost for city park

A Sheffield park is to benefit from £450,000 over the next few years following an award from the Big Lottery Fund.

The payment is part of a 50m national package and is going to the Heeley Development Trust for Heeley Millennium Park, above. It is hoped the surrounding community will get more involved in the park and the money will be used to improve facilities.

New play equipment, BMX trails and a community orchard are all likely developments and it is hoped the money will be spent over the next few years.

The proposals for developing the park were put together after

consulting the community who live nearby and use the park. However the developments will be planned to have an impact which should last for decades.

The grant has been made under the Groundwork UK awards Community Spaces grants and chief executive Tony Hawkhead said: "At a time when tightened local authority budgets are leaving many of our parks and outdoor recreation areas facing uncertain futures, the flagship grant awards will help secure much needed green spaces that will have a big impact in their local communities. I'd like to wish all the groups the very best of luck and look forward to seeing the finished sites."
