Major £2.4m investment in youth hostels

YOUTH hostels in two of Yorkshire’s key tourism destinations are undergoing renovations totalling more than £2.4m as part of a nationwide programme to update facilities and attract more visitors.

The YHA has announced it is investing £1.95m in its location in York and a further £460,000 in Malham to provide en suite accommodation, private family rooms and restaurant and education facilities. Both sites are now closed for the improvements and YHA Malham will re-open in February and the York venue the following month.

The York hostel will have a new reception, bar and upgraded restaurant, as well as being extended to increase the number of bedrooms from 37 to 45 to accommodate up to 205 guests.
