Make time to look at how we tick with sculptor’s exhibition

AN exhibition is looking at what makes people tick. The solo show at The Ropewalk gallery in Barton-upon-Humber by studio artist Michael Scrimshaw uses sculpture, drawing and paint.

Things That Make Us Tick follows on from Mr Scrimshaw’s 2007 show The Giant Sleeps which was memorable for its four metre high mechanical man with its animated arm.

The Ropewalk’s exhibition officer Richard Hatfield, said: “Michael dislikes being pigeonholed as a sculptor or painter as he maintains there are no hard divides between disciplines. This is evident in his art, whether 2D or 3D, which emphasises his own distinctive style.”

The artists said the exhibition was about “the values, memories, experiences that people choose to carry with them and which are used to define who and how they are.”

In recent years, Scrimshaw has exhibited widely in the area including successful solo shows at East Coast School of Art and Design and Abbey Walk Gallery, both in Grimsby.

He also featured in Abbey Walk’s Out of the Dark exhibition last year. That included works by some of the world’s most famous artists – including Picasso, Dali, Hirst and Emmin.

The exhibition runs at the Maltkiln Road gallery until Sunday May 29.
