Making a mark on city's history

Marks & Spencer chairman Sir Stuart Rose, right, and Leeds University Vice-Chancellor Prof Michael Arthur with items for a time capsule they buried in the grounds of the Michael Marks building.

The ceremony marked the start of construction work on the new building which will house the M&S company archive and a university bookstore. The building, next to Leeds University Business School on the Western Campus, is named after the man who founded the company in Leeds.

Earlier Sir Stuart was among several prominent people, including Archbishop of York John Sentamu, and BBC journalist John Simpson to receive honorary degrees from Leeds University.
