North Yorkshire Police were called to the Talbot Hotel on Yorkersgate, Malton, at about 4.25pm. Officers sealed off a 200-metre radius around the object and advised the public to keep away. The cordon is expected to remain in place until the object has been examined by an army bomb disposal unit.
